This is my project submitted for 'Medieval: Past and Present' Challenge. I wanted to reconsider the Arthurian myth about the Lady of the Lake and her gift Excalibur, the legendary sword.
The Lady of the Lake's image is strongly connected with legends about faires, so I created a mysterious ghostly hand that shoud be both marvelous and intimidating.
I started my project with a sketch for setting up the colors and the general idea of how I want to show this myth.
Then I created Houdini particle effect for appearing and dissolving hand above the water. This effect should be smooth, so I added also little drops of magic in Niagara, which touch the water first and call the sword.
